Architecturally designed house for a couple to enjoy a relaxed beach lifestyle, while also being able to work from home if they want.

a family retreat by the ocean

This house provides spaces for a large family to come together and enjoy the beach and ocean. The residence is buried into the side of a sand dune, providing shelter from the sun, wind, and rain.

The brief was for a house, where they could relax, entertain, and delight in the views of the coastal rainforest and ocean.

house needed to be built on a steep site and not exceed the maximum building height.

The design embraces simplicity, creating harmony between the interior and exterior environment. The spaces within the house are thoughtfully designed to be versatile and adaptable, ensuring they can evolve with the changing needs of a growing family.

We designed the living areas and main<br />
bedroom to look out over the garden to the ocean.

The pool deck is out of the wind with good sun, so it is warm all year round.

Glass windows and doors frame views of the garden, waves and ocean. Carefully positioned openings and skylights bring natural light into the house, creating patterns of light and shadow on the stone and concrete.

To manage the steep slope, we designed<br />

entertaining areas that step down from the inside.
